Loro Park
Loro Park is a place where it is worth setting aside a full day — not because it is
simply “large”, but because there is so much happening there.
Most people associate the park with its shows — and rightly so, as they are one of
the highlights of the experience. Orca Ocean with its killer whales is truly impressive,
the dolphin shows are dynamic and very well presented, while the sea lion and parrot
shows are lighter and more relaxed, making them great for children as well. These are
not performances you simply watch in the background — it is worth planning your day
so you can attend several of them. Another thing that stands out is the space itself
and the way the animals are presented. Planet Penguin is one of those attractions
people remember for a long time — a huge, cool environment with ice and snow,
where penguins live in conditions similar to their natural habitat. There are also
aquariums, tunnels, and newer areas such as AquaViva with jellyfish or the red panda
habitats. Large aviaries filled with plants and birds can also be explored on foot,
making it feel more like a walk through nature than a traditional “zoo visit”.
This place works well if you want to see many different species in one day, but also if
you are looking for something more organized and aesthetically pleasing than a typical
zoo. There is plenty of greenery, well-designed walking paths, and places to sit, relax,
or grab something to eat. For children, it is an easy choice — there is always
something happening, with shows and open spaces to explore without getting bored.
Adults usually appreciate how well organized the park is and how much can be seen
without any chaos.
It is good to know in advance that the park is located in the north of the island, in
Puerto de la Cruz, so if you are staying in the south, you should allow extra travel
time. You can easily spend several hours there, and most visitors stay for the whole
day — especially if you want to watch different shows. It is worth checking the show
times beforehand and planning your visit around them. Inside the park there are
restaurants and bars, so there is no need to worry about food. There are also souvenir
shops and shaded areas where you can sit and relax for a while.
Another thing that makes Loro Park stand out is the work of its foundation — the park
actively supports the protection of endangered species and their habitats. This is not
something that is heavily emphasized during the visit, but it is good to know that the
park operates on a wider level than simply being a tourist attraction. If you want to see
different animals in a well-organized environment and enjoy a day that does not feel
like chaotic rushing from one point to another — this is a very good option.
